Eidfjord is a Norwegian municipality on the eponymous fjord , the easternmost arm of the Hardangerfjord . The municipality is located in Fylke Vestland in Norway .

Geographical location

The municipality is located east of the city of Bergen on the eponymous foothills of the Hardangerfjord, Eidfjord . Large parts of the fells and the National Parks Hardangervidda are located on territory of the municipality Eidfjord. There are several waterfalls in Eidfjord, including Norway's most famous, Vøringsfossen .

Culture and sights

Museums

Special mention should be made of the Hardangervidda Nature and Culture Center . The history, animal world, nature, geology and the people of the Hardangervidda are vividly conveyed in a modern museum concept. Life-size figures of native species (for example reindeer ) and aquariums with trout are shown. A panorama film about the landscape, flora and fauna is also shown.

A trip to the Kjeåsen Alm is worthwhile. Thanks to a tunnel, this alpine pasture is accessible to normal traffic at an altitude of 530 m. The alpine pasture offers a great view of the Eidfjord.

The largest employer is the local Sima hydropower plant .

Eidfjord markets itself with unspoiled nature as part of the Hardanger region within the Fjord Norway tourism project .

traffic

Eidfjord is located on Riksvei 7 between Oslo and Bergen . The road leads through the lovely Måbødal valley to Hardangervidda . The 1380 m long Hardangerbru suspension bridge has been crossing the Eidfjord near Vallavik and Bu since 2013 and replaces the former ferry connection between Bruravik and Brimnes.
