Måbødal (2011)

Måbødal is a valley in Eidfjord municipality , Vestland province in western Norway . The valley forms the transition between the inlet Eidfjord and the plateau of the Hardangervidda . For a few kilometers, the terrain falls from 500 meters above sea level to sea level. The valley is very narrow and is framed by steep cliffs. In the upper part of the valley, the third highest waterfall in Norway, the Vøringsfossen, falls 145 m over a steep rock face .

The valley has always been an obstacle to traffic. Today's road through the valley is accordingly characterized by many tunnels. In August 1988 there was a bus accident on this route in which 16 people, including 12 Swedish children, were killed. The old road can be used with bicycles. There is a seasonal tram called Trolltoget that runs there from the beginning of June to the end of August.
