Øygarden is a municipality in Midthordland in Fylke Vestland that was founded on January 1st, 2020. The newly created large municipality replaced the previous three municipalities Fjell , Sund and Øygarden . The merger of the municipalities was part of the municipal reform in Norway.

On June 20, 2016, the municipal councils in Fjell, Sund and Øygarden decided to apply for a municipal merger. The Storting approved the merger on June 17, 2018.

In a joint municipal council meeting for Fjell, Sund and Øygarden on June 21, 2017, it was decided that the new larger municipality is called Øygarden and will come into force on January 1, 2020. The new community center of the municipality is in Straume on Litlesotra in the former municipality of Fjell, while the former municipality coat of arms of Sund, the lighthouse fire , has been used as the new municipal coat of arms.
