Luster is a municipality in the Vestland Province in Norway . It is located in the Lusterfjord , which is part of the inner part of the Sognefjord . The community center is Gaupne . Fortun , Hafslo, Indre Hafslo, Jostedal, Luster, Nes, Ornes , Skjolden , Solvorn and Veitastrond are located in the municipality of Luster .

Luster is one of the largest communities in southern Norway. The municipality is located in a region surrounded by glaciers, on a branch of the Sognefjord.
The municipality of Luster is bordered by four municipalities in Fylke Vestland . In the north-west Luster borders on Stryn , in the west on Sunnfjord , in the south-west on Sogndal and on Årdal in the south-east. Luster also borders on the municipalities of Fylke Innlandet : in the north-east on Skjåk and in the north on Lom and Vang .
There are many mountains in the area of the municipality of Luster, including Store Skagastølstind , the third highest mountain in Norway. This mountain is located in the southern part of the municipality. The fourth highest mountain, Store Styggedalstind, is also located in Luster.

The municipality is rich in water. Lakes are for example the Austdalsvatnet or the Styggevatnet . There are also many waterfalls, including the Feigumfoss with a height of 218 m. The Jostedøla flows through the municipality and flows into the Gaupnefjord , a branch of the Sognefjord.
The largest glacier in continental Europe, the Jostedalsbreen, is located in the area of the municipality of Luster .

economy
Agriculture is widespread in Luster. Berries and other fruits are grown. Grain is also produced. Tourism is another important industry. Various activities are offered, for example climbing, hiking, fishing or hunting activities.
Infrastructure
As in every Norwegian municipality, there are schools up to the 10th grade, a hospital, nursing homes and other social services in Luster.
Road 55 runs along the west bank of the Lustrafjord and continues northeast in Skjolden into Fylke Innlandet . The small road Fv331 runs along the east bank of the Lustrafjord.
There is no railroad in Luster.

The 11th century stave church of Urnes is located within the municipality and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . In Gaupne there is a built in 1647 church. The Nigardsbreen glacier tongue is also one of the sights . Part of the municipality of Luster is located in the Jotunheimen National Park . On the edge of the national park is the Breheimsenteret, a visitor center of the national park.
