Economy and culture
Ullensvang is Norway's fruit chamber, especially because of the cultivation of apples and sweet cherries. Every summer the cherry festival is held in Lofthus , where the Norwegian championship in cherry stone spitting is held (record: 14.24 meters, S. Kleivkaas).
Every year in May, the Hardanger Music Festival takes place, to which artists from all over the world come to the Hardanger region. The festival is held in honor of the composer Edvard Grieg , who spent many summers in Lofthus.
Sights in the region are the medieval churches of Lofthus (built in 1300) and Kinsarvik (built in 1160), various waterfalls , the flowering season in May, the Agatunet open-air museum , and the museums in Utne and Skredhaugen.
