Jan Matura (born January 29, 1980 in Český Krumlov ) is a former Czech skier who was first active in Nordic combined and then in ski jumping . He is a sports teacher and started for Dukla Liberec . In 2012 he won the summer classification of the Continental Cup .
Career
Nordic combination
In 1999 Jan Matura made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup in Schonach . Until 2001 he took part in ten World Cups, but could never repeat his best placement, a ninth place in a Gundersen competition in his first competition. In 1997 in Trondheim , 1999 in Ramsau and 2001 in Lahti , Matura took part in Nordic World Ski Championships. His starts in individual races in 1999 and 2001 were not very successful, but he narrowly missed winning a medal with the relay in 1997 when he finished fourth.
Ski jumping
Since his results in the combination stagnated mainly because of poor performance in cross-country skiing, Matura switched to the special jumpers. In his first competition in 2002 during the Four Hills Tournament , he was last in the first round. He made it to the finals for the first time in 2003 in ski flying in Planica (24.). His first place in the top ten in an individual competition was ninth on the large hill on January 22, 2006 in Sapporo . Almost five years later he was able to achieve his best result in a World Cup competition up to that point on January 16, 2011 with fourth place in the same place. Two years later, on January 19, 2013, he surprisingly achieved his first World Cup victory again in Sapporo. At the second competition in Sapporo the next day he was victorious again.
At the ski flying in Harrachov, Czech Republic, Matura reached third place for the first time in this discipline in early February 2013. Later on the same day he finished second behind Gregor Schlierenzauer on the same hill .
On February 21, 2010, Matura was able to win a competition in the second-class Continental Cup for the first time in Brotterode, Thuringia . His second victory in this competition came on July 14, 2012 when he won the first international competition on the new Olympic hill in Sochi . After he was able to win one of the two competitions in Kuopio, Finland, in August , he won the summer classification of the Continental Cup 2012 prematurely with a third place in the penultimate competition on September 22nd in Klingenthal .
As a ski jumper, Matura took part in two Olympic Games. In 2002 in Salt Lake City he started on the normal hill (47th) and in the team (12th), in 2006 in Turin ( Pragelato ) on the normal hill (21st), large hill (22nd) and in the team competition (9th). He took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships and Ski Flying World Championships five times . His best placement in an individual competition was a 20th place on the large hill at the 2003 World Championship in Val di Fiemme .
15 years after his World Cup debut, Matura announced in May 2017 that he would end his career after one last Continental Cup competition and the Czech Championships in the summer.
