The Puijo-Schanze is a ski jumping hill in the Finnish city of Kuopio . It is located on the 150 meter high Puijo Hill, on which there is a well-known observation tower, the Puijo Tower .
history
The first documented ski jumping competition on Puijo took place as early as 1886. The first “real” ski jumping hill was built around 1900, and according to tradition, 14 meters were reached on it. Ten years later a 20 meter hill was also built.
In 1949 a K90 hill was built at Puijo, at that time the largest hill in Finland. In 1958 the area was extended by a K50 ski jump.
The first World Cup competition took place in 1995. In 1998 today's K120 ski jump was built, it has not been changed since then.
At times the World Cup opening , the so-called Nordic Opening , took place in Kuopio, and for several years the Puijo hill has been the second station of the Nordic Tournament . The opening was held in Kuusamo until the 2013/14 season.
