Alexei Gennadjewitsch Romaschow ( Russian Алексей Геннадьевич Ромашов , born April 29, 1992 in Saint Petersburg ) is a former Russian ski jumper .

Career

Romaschow made his international debut on August 15, 2009 at the age of 17 in the FIS Cup . He just missed the points in Oberwiesenthal and ended up in 32nd place. In December 2009 he won his first point in his third competition in Notodden, Norway . He was also successful again in the second competition. After he also won 26 points in the first competition in Harrachov , he finished the FIS Cup season in 218th place overall. In the summer of 2010 he was able to jump into the top ten for the first time on the Štrbské Pleso ski jumps in Štrbské Pleso and came in ninth. In the winter season he was also successful on the same hill and shortly afterwards achieved his best individual result in the FIS Cup with sixth place in Szczyrk .

After he won the title at the Russian Junior Championship 2011, he reached the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2011 in Otepää, Estonia, in individual jumping and ranked 12th with the team in team jumping. Three weeks after the Junior World Championships, he missed the FIS Cup in Ramsau am Dachstein with fourth place just barely made the podium. After rather mixed results in a row, Romaschow made his debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup on September 24, 2011 . In Klingenthal , he clearly missed the points with 56th place in the first competition and was even disqualified in the second competition a day later. At the beginning of the 2011/12 winter season in Rovaniemi in the second competition with 33rd place , he missed the points by just three places. A few weeks later, however, he scored 24th place for the first time in Engelberg, Switzerland . He also succeeded in doing this in Titisee-Neustadt . In the second event, with eighth place, he was among the top ten for the first time.

After an unsuccessful Continental Cup competition in Brotterode launched Romashov in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2012 in Turkey's Erzurum . As in 2011, he finished 30th in the individual, but was able to jump to eighth place with the team. At the end of the Continental Cup season he reached tenth and 37th place again in Kuopio and thus ended the season in 64th place overall. At the Russian Championships in 2012 he won the title in the team competition and silver in the individual on the normal hill.

After showing good performances in the Continental Cup again in the summer of 2012, he received the nomination for the Ski Jumping Grand Prix in Hinterzarten , where he was eliminated in qualification. He then started again in the Continental Cup and achieved his first Continental Cup podium in Tchaikovsky with second place. After he was able to convince with seventh place in the second competition, he came back to the A-team. At the Grand Prix jumping in Kazakh Almaty he could score points in both competitions. In Hinzenbach , too , he achieved a good placement with twelfth place and so he reached 43rd place overall in his first Grand Prix season.

On November 23, 2012 he was able to narrowly prevail in his first qualification for a jumping in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Lillehammer and reached 38th place in his first competition two days later. A week later, after a sixth place with the team, he was able to compete in team jumping for the first time Win World Cup points in individual jumping. He also succeeded in doing this on the RusSki Gorki in Sochi . In the Four Hills Tournament 2012/13 he clearly missed the qualifications, even in Wisła he failed before the competition. Having but in Zakopane again scored points with the team in the team competition of Willingen finished ninth, he was part of the squad for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in the Italian Val di Fiemme . At the World Championships Romaschow jumped after good results in the qualifications from the normal hill in the individual to 34th place, from the large hill to 41st place. In the team competition on the large hill, Romaschow retired with the Russian team after the first round in ninth place.

In the winter of 2013/14 Romaschow started in the World Cup squad. Already in the first competition in Kuusamo he won the first World Cup points as the 22nd. He also reached the second round in Lillehammer . At the Four Hills Tournament 2013/14 and also at the following Ski Flying World Cup, he missed the qualification in all competitions. In Willingen he managed to qualify and also further World Cup points in jumping. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he jumped from the normal hill to 44th place and from the large hill to 46th place. In the final team competition, he and his teammates finished ninth.

In the 2014/15 season he was only able to win a World Cup point in Nizhny Tagil and was 85th overall. From January Romaschow started this season only in the Continental Cup and at the Winter Universiade 2015 in Štrbské Pleso , where he reached 12th place in the individual competition. In the 2015/16 season he only competed in Nizhny Tagil and Engelberg in the World Cup. In Nizhny Tagil he qualified twice as part of the national group , was then disqualified in the first competition and in the second competition he was 36. In Engelberg he missed the qualification twice. He remained without a World Cup point this season.

In the 2016/17 season, he started the World Cup in Sapporo for the first time in February after jumping in the Continental Cup . He reached the points both twice in Sapporo and a few days later in Pyeongchang, collecting 17 World Cup points this season. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , Finland , he took 44th place on the normal hill and 49th place on the large hill in the individual competitions. With the Russian team he was ninth.

In the summer of 2017, at the start of the Summer Grand Prix in Wisła, he finished eleventh with the Russian team and 26th in the individual. It was the first time in four years that he was able to score Grand Prix points. On September 10th, he finished tenth in Tchaikovsky, his first top ten placement in the Grand Prix. With 42 points, he finished 40th in the overall ranking at the end of the summer and thus achieved his best result. In the following winter he jumped more regularly in the World Cup , but only survived the qualification twice and did not get past 47th place in the competitions. He remained without a World Cup point this season. At the Ski Flying World Championship 2018 in Oberstdorf , he finished 26th in the individual and seventh with the Russian team. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he started as an Olympic athlete from Russia and competed in all three competitions. He finished 37th in the individual competition on the normal hill and 42nd in the individual competition on the large hill . With the Russian team he was seventh in the team competition on the large hill .
