Career

Timi Zajc started the FIS Cup for the first time on July 14, 2013 in Villach and was 69. After two more starts in the FIS Cup, he made his debut in Einsiedeln in the Alpencup a year later on September 13 and 14, 2014 , where he finished places 29 and 20. In the following seasons he mainly competed in FIS and Alpine Cups. On February 6th and 7th, 2016, Zajc finally made his debut in Planica in the Continental Cup and finished in 44th and 56th place. At the beginning of February 2017 in Erzurum, Turkey , he achieved a top 10 position in the Continental Cup for the first time with a tenth place. At the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2017 , also in Erzurum, Zajc won the gold medal both in the individual competition in front of Jonathan Learoyd and Mathis Contamine and in the team competition together with his teammates Lovro Vodušek , Bernard Dobre and Tomi Jovan . In addition, Zajc has won two Alpine Cup and three FIS Cup competitions so far, most recently two FIS Cup competitions on August 12, 2017 in Kuopio .

On September 17, 2017, Zajc clinched his first win in the Continental Cup in Trondheim , after having finished third in the competition the day before.

At the beginning of October 2017, Zajc surprisingly won the gold medal at the Slovenian Championships 2017 in Kranj . On December 23, 2017, he won his second gold medal at the 2017 Slovenian Championships in Planica , ahead of Anže Semenič in second place and the two third-placed Peter Prevc and Tilen Bartol .

At the start of the Ski Jumping World Cup 2017/18 in Wisła , Zajc was used for the first time in a World Cup competition. On December 2, 2017, at the second individual competition of the season in Nizhny Tagil , he jumped to twelfth place and thus received his first World Cup points. After he regularly jumped into the points in the rest of the season, he was nominated for the five-man Slovenian squad for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . He was only used in the individual competition on the normal hill and took 33rd place. He finished his first World Cup season with 88 points in 32nd place in the overall World Cup. In the following summer season he finished 13th in the Grand Prix series , with a fourth place in jumping on the Tremplin du Praz in Courchevel, France, his best performance.

On December 23, 2018, Zajc won the gold medal at the 2018 Slovenian Championships in Planica ahead of Anže Semenič and Bor Pavlovčič . A good month later, on January 27, 2019, he landed on the Ōkurayama ski jump in Sapporo, Japan, as second behind Stefan Kraft for the first time in his career on the podium in a World Cup. A few days later, on February 1, 2019, he won a World Cup competition for the first time on the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill in Oberstdorf . At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , he was tenth on the large hill, while he was 50th and last on the normal hill. With the Slovenian men's team, he reached sixth place in team jumping. As part of the Raw Air 2019 , in which he was 16th overall, he and his Slovenian teammates Anže Semenič as well as Peter and Domen Prevc won the team flight on the Vikersundbakken on March 16, 2019 and thus won his first team world cup victory.
