Anže Semenič (born August 1, 1993 ) is a Slovenian ski jumper .

Career

Semenič made his international debut in September 2010 in Kranj as part of the Alpine Cup . After steady increases in performance and several top 10 placements in February 2012, he made his debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup on July 8, 2012 in Kranj , where he narrowly missed the points with 32nd place. In September 2012 he was disqualified in both Continental Cup competitions in Klingenthal .

After further good placements in the Alpine Cup, he was nominated again for the Continental Cup in December 2012. On January 5, 2013, he made it into the points for the first time in Zakopane, Poland . He just missed the podium with fourth place. A day later he won his first Continental Cup competition at Wielka Krokiew . Two days later he was given the opportunity to compete in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Wisła . After a good place in the qualification, he did not make it into the second round in jumping with 40th place. He was also able to qualify clearly in Zakopane, but only reached 37th place in the first round and was eliminated.

In Liberec , he won the gold medal with the team at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2013 . In the individual competition he jumped to 14th place. In the Continental Cup competition after the Junior World Championships in Planica , he again achieved top positions with fifth and third places.

At the Slovenian Championships in 2013 he finished seventh in the individual competition, as he jumped only weakly in the second round after a good first jump. In team jumping he reached fourth place with the team.

In the first Continental Cup competition after the Slovenian Championship on February 9, 2013 in Iron Mountain , he couldn't convince with 30th place. However, he was able to clearly win the second competition on the same day. A day later he had the third Continental Cup victory of his career in the same place.

After Semenič had previously not been considered for the World Cup for the entire 2014/15 season , the Slovenian coach Goran Janus called him back to the World Cup team for the ski flying competitions in Vikersund . In the ski flying of February 14th, he reached the 26th place and collected his first World Cup points. Also on February 15 he reached the second round and finished ski flying in 27th place.

At the home World Cup in Planica , Semenič was again a member of the Slovenian World Cup team, where he won the qualification for jumping on March 20, 2015. When jumping, he achieved his 10th place by far, his best World Cup placement in individual jumping. Only one day later he won the Planica team competition with the Slovenian team. He finished the season in 53rd place in the overall World Cup standings .

In the 2015/16 season he jumped up to and including the Four Hills Tournament in the World Cup , but could not convince with only one final participation. That's why he then switched back to the Continental Cup . In the World Cup he was only taken into account for the stations in Almaty in February and the World Cup final in Planica . His best results of the season were a podium finish in second place in a COC competition as well as 27th place in the individual and second place with the team at the World Cup in Planica.

On September 11, 2016, Semenič achieved his first Summer Grand Prix victory in Tchaikovsky after finishing second for the first time on the podium the day before. He started the winter season in December in the Continental Cup , and celebrated his eighth COC victory on December 11, 2016 in Vikersund . With the beginning of the Four Hills Tournament he was part of the Slovenian World Cup team until the end of the season. His best result of the season in the World Cup was 19th place in ski flying in Vikersund.

In the 2017/18 season he was an integral part of the Slovenian World Cup team for the entire season. At the Ski Flying World Championships 2018 in Oberstdorf , he finished 14th in the individual and, together with Jernej Damjan , Domen Prevc and Peter Prevc, won the silver medal in the team competition as second behind Norway. On January 28, 2018, he achieved his first individual World Cup victory in Zakopane . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he was part of the five-man Slovenian squad and was used in two of three competitions. In the individual competition on the large hill , he finished 30th after he was disqualified in the finals. With the Slovenian team, he was fifth in the team competition on the large hill .

On December 23, 2018, Semenič won the silver medal at the Slovenian Championships 2018 in Planica behind Timi Zajc and ahead of Bor Pavlovčič .
