Goran Janus (born March 27, 1970 in Ljubljana ) is a former Slovenian ski jumper and current ski jumping trainer.

Career

Janus made his international debut at the Junior World Championships in 1989 in Vang , where he won the silver medal in team jumping on the normal hill with the Yugoslav team. On December 16, 1989, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup in Sapporo . A year later he was able to win his first World Cup point on the same hill with 15th place. He also managed this placement in the second competition a day later. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1991 in Val di Fiemme , he reached 46th place on the normal hill and 22nd place on the large hill. On February 24, 1991 he achieved the best individual placement in the World Cup with eighth place in ski flying on the Kulm. He finished the 1990/91 season in 42nd place in the overall World Cup standings. In the ski flying ranking he was in 20th place. In the following season Janus was unable to achieve any top placements and then began to compete in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup .

Janus started in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup until 1999, before ending his active ski jumping career after only unsuccessful rear placements.

After his active ski jumping career, Janus completed his trainer training. From 2003 to 2011 he was assistant coach of the Slovenian national team. When Matjaž Zupan moved to France in 2011, he was promoted to head coach.

After a disappointing 2017/18 Olympic season , the Slovenian Ski Association prematurely ended its collaboration with Janus, who actually still had a contract until 2020, and instead promoted the previous junior coach Gorazd Bertoncelj to the position of Slovenian head coach. He is currently the head coach of the Slovenian national team in Nordic combined .
