Maximilian Mechler (born January 3, 1984 in Isny im Allgäu ) is a former German ski jumper and today's ski jumping coach. Mechler was a sports soldier in the German Armed Forces and a member of the WSV Isny. His greatest success is winning a silver medal with the German team at the Ski Flying World Championship 2012 in Vikersund .

Career

Mechler first appeared on January 1, 2000 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the Four Hills Tournament on an international level. At the Junior World Championships 2001 in Karpacz- Zklarska, he jumped with the team to third place and 17th in the individual competition. In the same year he was second on the normal hill at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Vuokatti . At the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Schonach in the Black Forest , he was tenth in the individual jumping. His best individual World Cup result was the World Cup competition in Trondheim in 2003 with third place. In the summer of 2003 he was able to win his only Grand Prix in Innsbruck . Mechler achieved his best overall result in the Four Hills Tournament 2003/04 with 11th place. With the team he won first place at the World Cup competition in Willingen in 2005. After that, however, his performance deteriorated over several years, which is why Mechler only rarely started in the World Cup. In the seasons 2005/06 and 2006/2007 , however, he still managed to qualify in several competitions. In the 2007/08 season Mechler was no longer at the start in any World Cup and even started in the FIS Cup for the first time . In the 2008/09 season he was nominated again via the national group for the World Cup at the start of the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf and just dropped out of the qualification as 51st. Also in Garmisch-Partenkirchen Mechler could not qualify for the jumping as 54th. In Sapporo he won World Cup points for the first time since the 2004/05 season and finished 23rd. With these eight points, Mechler finished in 75th place overall. In Notodden he won an FIS Cup at the end of 2009. This season he was able to score multiple points again and was again with eight points in the overall ranking 74th After a weak start in the summer of 2010, when Mechler once failed to reach the 2nd round in the Continental Cup and in Japanese Hakuba only the 43 and 37 jumpers Finished 41st and 32nd, he achieved his best results in years in Liberec in tenth and in Klingenthal in sixth. Also in the next winter he scored World Cup points several times. Mechler has won a total of six Continental Cup competitions so far, three of them in the 2010/11 season .

After the 2012/2013 season , which Mechler finished 43rd in the overall World Cup ranking, the German Ski Association decided to leave him out of the classic training groups so that he had to prepare for the season individually at the Hinterzarten base . At the beginning of May 2014 it was announced that Mechler was ending his career after a disappointing 2013/2014 season.

For the 2020/21 season , Mechler became the trainer of course group 1b for German ski jumpers at DSV.
