Tommy Ingebrigtsen (born August 8, 1977 in Trondheim ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper .

Career

In December 1993 he made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Predazzo , and in his second competition on December 17th in Courchevel he was able to attract attention with an eighth place.

The following winter he achieved his greatest successes. On March 1, 1995, he was first junior world champion in Gällivare, Sweden, and because of this success he was also appointed to the Norwegian team at the 1995 Nordic World Ski Championships in Thunder Bay , Canada . There he surprisingly won the gold medal on the large hill by a clear margin; on the normal hill he reached the 16th place. After these successes, he was honored with the Morgenbladet Foundation gold medal in his home country .

In the following years Ingebrigtsen was a decidedly fickle jumper. Often he only managed one good jump in competitions, but in the second round he often had to land on the hill front. In the World Cup he was unable to achieve a podium finish until 1999, and his 1995 success seemed to have been a flash in the pan to many .

It wasn't until the winter of 1998/99 that his career started to improve again. He reached the top ten more often and even a podium finish on occasion. On February 26, 2000, he achieved his best individual placement at a World Cup with second place on the large hill in Iron Mountain . In the overall World Cup ranking he reached eleventh place in the winters 1998/99 and 2000/01 , and thirteenth place in 1999/2000 .

After that his form went downhill again, and at the beginning of the winter of 2002/03 Ingebrigtsen was only set up for the Continental Cup, i.e. the second league of ski jumping. After this break he caught himself again and won the silver medal on the normal hill and a bronze medal with the Norwegian team at the 2003 World Championships in Val di Fiemme ; on the large hill he was fourth. In the 2003/04 season he was fifth in the Nordic Tournament and was again able to reach eleventh place in the overall World Cup ranking.

Ingebrigtsen achieved second and four third places in his career in the World Cup. His unconventional jumping style, which was often punished with deductions by the judges, was characteristic: in the approach squat he put his knees together almost in an X-shape, and in flight he made numerous corrections with his arms and hands, which made his jumps appear very restless. In 2006 he set a hill record with 136.0 m on the Holmenkollbakken . After the 2006/07 season Ingebrigtsen ended his career.
