Alf Steen Andersen (born May 5, 1906 in Drammen , Viken , † April 12, 1975 in Frogn , Viken) was a Norwegian ski jumper . He jumped for the Lyn Oslo sports club .

Career

He won the gold medal at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . His compatriot Jacob Tullin Thams achieved considerably more distance points, but fell when landing his second jump. Previously, Thams had complained to the Swiss jury that the approach was too long. Andersen's Olympic victory is thus one of the most controversial in ski jumping history. Since the Nordic World Ski Championships were held this year as part of the Olympic Games, Andersen also became world champion with his victory.

In 1928 he also set a new hill record on the Holmenkollbakken with a height of 48 meters . Another time Andersen competed at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1935 in Vysoké Tatry, Czechoslovakia . He won the bronze medal behind his compatriots Birger Ruud and Reidar Andersen .
