Frogn is a municipality in Viken in Norway . The seat of the administration is Drøbak . The municipality is located on the southern part of the Nesodden peninsula between Oslofjord and its eastern extension, the Bunnefjord . Frogn borders the municipalities of Nesodden , Ås and Vestby .

History and name

Frogn was founded as a municipality on January 1, 1838. The city of Drøbak was merged with the municipality of Frogn on January 1, 1962. The municipality (originally the parish) got its name from the old farm Frogn ( norrøn : Fraun), as the first church was built here. The exact meaning is not known. One theory suggests the origin in norrønen frauđ n 'manure' - which can be transferred as the “fertile field”.

Until 1889 the name "Fron" was written.

The municipality's coat of arms dates from 1988 and represents the Oscarsborg fortress .

Others

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the Frogn Commune gave the German capital Berlin a Christmas tree for the square in front of the Brandenburg Gate . It symbolized peace and solidarity with the reunified Germany. At the same time, the Christmas trees in Drøbak and on Pariser Platz in Berlin were illuminated for the first Advent . However, this tradition ended in 2014. One of the reasons given was the transport costs.
