Åmål is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and the historic province of Dalsland . It is located on the west bank of Lake Vänern and has an area of ​​481 km² and 12,229 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2013). The main town is the city of Åmål .
