Coordinates: 58 ° 32 '  N , 14 ° 30'  O Karl Borg is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province Västra län and the historical province Västergötland and lies on the western shore of Vättern . The main town is Karlsborg . Other localities are Forsvik , Mölltorp , Undenäs and other smaller villages.

geography

The municipality of Karlsborg extends about 30 kilometers on the west bank of Lake Vättern , the second largest lake in Sweden with 1912 km² . The southern part of the parish is flat while the northern part is hilly. The area is rich in lakes, u. a. the municipality has a share in the lakes Viken , which is connected to the lakes Bottensjö and Vättern by the Göta Canal, and Unden. The Tiveden National Park is located in the northeastern part of the municipality .

economy

Agriculture and industry play only a modest role in the community. The military is important ( Bofors Underwater Systems with a test site on Lake Vättern) and, to a certain extent, tourism . In recent years, however, more and more military infrastructure has been shut down and attempts have been made to expand the tourism industry.

The Karlsborg Fortress , the Göta Canal , the Forsvik Industrial Museum , Granvik and the Tiveden National Park are tourist attractions.
