Coordinates: 57 ° 54 ′ N , 12 ° 3 ′ O Ale is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and the historic province of Västergötland . The main town of the municipality is Nödinge-Nol .
geography
Ale borders Gothenburg in the south and is part of the greater Gothenburg area. The European route 45 and the main railway line Göteborg - Trollhättan - Oslo / Karlstad run through the municipality, which lies on the eastern bank of the Göta älv .
economy
Due to the location on Göta älv, which is an important waterway, and the access to water and energy, industrial companies settled in the municipality early on. In the second half of the 19th century a spinning mill in Alafors and a glass factory in Surte, which was the largest producer of glass bottles in Sweden, were founded. Both are shut down today. In the 20th century AB PA Carlmark in Älvängen, Sweden's largest rope manufacturer, Tudor AB in Nol, a battery manufacturer, and EKA Chemicals AB in Bohus were established. In recent years, many smaller businesses have set up shop in the Ale community.
