location
Bertinoro is located between Forlì in the north-west and Cesena in the south-east on the edge of the Apennines . It is around 20 km (as the crow flies) to the east of the Adriatic coast , around 35 km to Ravenna in the north and Rimini in the southeast.

Characteristics of the place
The municipality is located on the eastern slope of the Apennines, where the hilly terrain changes into flat land to the north to the Po Valley . Some streets are accordingly steep. There is a spectacular vantage point to the north far over the Italian countryside. In this context one speaks of the balcone della Romagna , the balcony of Romagna .
In addition to some wider streets that lead to and through the place, there are also many small alleys, which together with the houses and the location high above the plain make the special charm of the place.
Attractions
- The Colonna degli Anelli (or "dell'Ospitalità" ) is a column with rings (Anelli) from the 13th century. Legend has it that each ring was assigned to one of the important families of the place. If a stranger came to Bertinoro on horseback, the ring that he used to tie his horse decided on the house, whose hospitality (ospitalità) he could take advantage of. This tradition is commemorated every year on the first Sunday in September.
- The Rocca (city castle) was built around the year 1000. Today it is the seat of the Centro residenziale universitario dell'Alma Mater Studiorum of the University of Bologna and an interreligious museum that deals with the common features of the three monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity, Islam.
- The Palazzo Ordelaffi was built in 1306 by the then city lord Pino I. Ordelaffi and today houses the city hall.
- Next to the town hall is the cathedral. It was built in the Bramante style from 1500 and is dedicated to St. Caterina of Alexandria, the patron saint of Bertinoro.
