Roncofreddo is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 3383 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Forlì-Cesena in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 30 kilometers southeast of Forlì and about 12 kilometers southeast of Cesena .
The castle of Sorrivoli was initially under the rule of the Archbishops of Ravenna, who enfeoffed Count Rudolf of Rimini with it in 971. In 1001 it fell back to the church, which it used as a base to contain the independence of the city of Cesena. In 1318 the citizens of Cesena besieged the castle and took the episcopal vicar prisoner. In 1357 the Papal States subjugated Cesena. From 1379 to 1465 Cesena came under the rule of the Malatesta family and fell back to the Papal States in 1465. In 1527 the Archbishop enfeoffed the Sorrivoli family, who remained in the possession of the castle until it died out in 1858. The castle and its chapel were sold to the Allocatelli-Fabbri family who donated it to the parish in 1944 after the local church was bombed.
