Forlimpopoli is a municipality with 13,260 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Forlì-Cesena in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna .
history
In the 1st century BC Founded as Forum Popili in the 5th century BC, a bishopric since the 5th century, it belonged to the Exarchate of Ravenna and later to the Papal States . In the 13th century, the Ordelaffi wanted to extend their rule from Forlì to Romagna , but were pushed back by Cardinal Albornoz , who in 1361 ordered the destruction of the city. Ten years later it is described as uninhabited and the bishopric moved to Bertinoro. The Rocca rises on the site of the destroyed cathedral.
Architectural monuments
An impressive, well-preserved Rocca (castle) from the 16th century in the city center. It houses the local government, the archaeological museum, a theater and the music school.
music school
The "Scuola di Musica Popolare di Forlimpopoli" was founded by the municipality and is now supported as an association by the teachers and students. The music lessons focus on maintaining traditional folk music from the region. The music school is of supraregional importance. In cooperation with the Akademie Burg Fürsteneck in Germany and the Eric Sahlström Institutet in Sweden, the music school has developed the "European Nyckelharpa training".
