geography

The municipality of Vänersborg comprises the Vänersnäs peninsula east of Vänersborg, which extends about 15 kilometers in the Vänern. The eastern border of the municipality is formed by the table mountains Halleberg and Hunneberg (about 10 kilometers east of Vänersborg), a royal hunting area with a particularly dense population of elk since the 16th century. Both Vänersnäs and the two table mountains were settled early, as numerous archaeological finds, such as the Hästevads stenar , indicate.

Most of the municipal area extends along the western shore of Lake Vänern (about 25 kilometers to the north), from which the Dalbo plain extends inland.

economy

The municipality of Vänersborg is predominantly characterized by the service sector, the center of which is the city of Vänersborg. There are larger industrial companies mainly in Vargön and Brålanda. Agriculture is concentrated in the western part of the municipality.
