Mölndal is a municipality south of Gothenburg in the western Swedish province of Västra Götaland and the historic provinces of Västergötland and Halland . The main town is Mölndal .

history

The name "Mölndal" is derived from Möllornas dal , the valley of the mills. In the 19th century, the water mills were a decisive factor in the development and growth of the paper and textile industry in particular. Today Mölndal is the seat of numerous multinational corporations such as Ericsson and AstraZeneca, particularly due to its proximity to Gothenburg .

After the murder of the 22-year-old Swedish helper Alexandra Mezher on January 25, 2016 in a refugee shelter for unaccompanied minor refugees in Mölndal, there was global coverage.
