Mölndal is the capital of the municipality Mölndal in the Swedish administrative district Västra Götalands län and is part of the Gothenburg metropolitan area .
history
Mölndal quickly developed from a small mill village to an industrial site in the 1870s thanks to the hydropower of the Mölndalsån river . In 1911 the place had around 5000 inhabitants. In 1922 Mölndal was granted city rights.
economy
Thanks to its proximity to Gothenburg , numerous high-tech companies such as AstraZeneca and Ericsson have settled in Mölndal . The pharmaceutical , textile , paper , pulp , food and metal industries are represented in the city, which is still heavily industrialized today.
