The Rietberger Fischteiche are a nature reserve in Rietberg in the district of Gütersloh , North Rhine-Westphalia , which was artificially created in a swamp area between 1900 and 1904 .

The 49.9 hectare area around the former Eden Castle (Gut Rietberg) is fed by a feed line from the Ems . The water, which is up to 1.5 meters deep, is therefore very rich in oxygen and nutrients. It is surrounded by very dense reeds up to 2 m high . This consists mainly of reeds (Phargmites australis), cane grass (Phalaris arundinacea) and water swaths (Glyceria maxima) . In the area of banks and on the mud floors of the discharged in winter ponds come as floristic the peculiarities Oozeling (Limosella aquatica) and the needle ledges (Eleocharis acicularis) ago. The water areas are partially covered by the yellow water lily ( Nuphar lutea) and the white water lily (Nymphaea alba) . The floating leaves of the sea ​​can (Nymphoides peltata), which was presumably anointed in the 1960s, swing on one of the ponds .

The whole area is populated by many species of birds, which have found a protected breeding and resting area here. To find here include Bless- and moorhens , reeds , marsh and reed warbler , the reed bunting , the Stock- and teal and grebes . The occurrence of the moor frog is a specialty .

The area borders directly on the Rietberger Emsniederung nature reserve in the north and west . It is privately owned and is not open to the public.
