The liverwort

The Jakobsberg , popularly known as Leberblümchenberg , is a nature reserve with a size of 47.3 hectares in the Amshausen district of the Steinhagen (Westphalia) municipality in the Gütersloh district . It is listed under the number GT-015 and consists of two adjoining individual areas that are privately owned.

The nature reserve is important in terms of plant geography, as it represents the north-western limit of the range of the endangered liverwort in Europe. In addition, it is a location of unspoilt low and middle forest .

When the liverwort is in bloom from mid-March, the area is a highly frequented tourist attraction. At the same time, several types of violets bloom on the edge of the forest . A little later white and occasionally yellow wood anemones bloom in large numbers . The real cowslip blooms in April . There are also the red and blue flowering real lungwort , woodruff and ringelwort .
