The Schellenwiese nature reserve is an area of 55.9 hectares in the Rietberg district of Druffel in the Gütersloh district . It is carried with the number GT-009.
It was designated in 1988 for the preservation of communities and habitats of wild plants and animals and because of the rarity, uniqueness and beauty of the area.
Characteristic
Characteristic for the Schellenwiese is the high proportion of grassland areas on which fat meadows have formed as a result of intensive agricultural use . The drainage of these areas takes place via several ditches that are fed to the Rothenbach . In the eastern part of the protected area there is also a contiguous and largely natural forest section with mixed stands of beech and oak and individual pine trees .
In the northwest, the Schellenwiese extends directly to the Druffel settlement area. The border of the protected area is marked there by the Rothenbach.
flora
Due to the intensive use of grassland areas, the biodiversity within the protected area is limited; a survey in 1997 only found 140 vascular plant species. Species worthy of protection are mainly found in the area of the trenches. The water spring could be detected in two of these trenches, there is also an occurrence of the Great Water Fennel , the evidence of which was provided outside the Schellenwiese in only two other wet meadow areas in the Gütersloh district.
fauna
When the territory was mapped in 1997, 41 bird species were found in the protected area, 9 of which are on the NRW Red List . The species of lapwing , little owl , partridge , stock dove and small woodpecker should be emphasized here .
Furthermore, 9 species of grasshopper could be detected, four of which are on the red list. These are the marsh insect , the short-winged sword insect , the marsh grasshopper and the white-edged grasshopper .
