The Versmolder Bruch is a nature reserve with a size of 244 hectares , which lies in the area of the city of Versmold ( Gütersloh district ). It is listed with the number GT-020, is the third largest wetland conservation area in the district and is completely publicly owned.
The designation as a nature reserve on September 20, 1990 was made to preserve communities and sites of wild flora and fauna, especially endangered waders and meadow birds , plant communities of the moist grassland and the blanks .
For this purpose, bodies of water were created and areas rewetted. The land is used extensively by farmers and they have to adhere to certain rules for evidence, mowing and fertilization.
flora
The nature reserve is determined by its extensive meadows and pastures. Probably between the 16th and 18th centuries, the grassland was created in place of the original break and is now essentially divided into two clearly different areas. In the western part there is an open character with small rows of trees and bushes, in the eastern part, however, the grassland is structured by many hedges, rows of trees, alder trees (especially black alder ) and woody trees. Hybrid poplars planted here that are not suitable for the location are usually damaged and are preferred by woodpeckers to build their burrows. There are also marsh marigold meadows , hedgehog hose (from the frog-spoon family ), salt bungee and needle ledges . A total of 321 vascular plant species were identified, 39 of which are considered endangered.
fauna
The species found here include the curlew , the lapwing , the meadow pipit , the black- tailed godwit and also the little owl and the wagtail . The common snipe can only be found occasionally . 16 breeding bird species on the Red List of Threatened Species of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia were found in the Versmolder Bruch or in directly adjacent areas.
Less conspicuous, but also endangered and occurring in fractures, are, for example, the marsh insect and the banded demoiselle . These are themselves the basis of food for other animals.
Some storks , great egrets , gray herons and cranes also pass by as migrants .
