Kraal bush

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kraalbusch is a former nature reserve near Steinhagen ( Gütersloh district ).

The former moor and heathland is located in the Steinhagen district, a good 400 meters south of the Friedrichsruh estate (formerly Nölke, or Nieder-Schabbehard). It was placed under nature protection as early as 1939 and had a size of around 4.2 hectares. Isselhorster Strasse runs on its east side.

The heart of the area is a large pond through which a ditch flows. Its subsoil consists of nutrient-poor sand. Previously grew at its edges the pond reeds consisting of Ordinary Teichbinse ( Schoenoplectus lacustris ), reeds ( Phragmites australis ), broadleaf and Schmalblättrigem cattail ( Typha latifolia and angustifolia ), the ordinary water plantain ( Alisma plantago aquatica ) and water iris ( Iris pseudacours ). In the immediate vicinity there were willow-buckthorn bushes ( Frangulo-Salicetum auritae ), as well as alder and birch forests .

The pond and adjacent forest areas contained numerous rare plant species, including:

In addition, Fritz Koppe was able to detect the bastard bilberry ( Vaccinium x intermedium ) here in 1932 , an extremely rare spontaneous hybrid between the bilberry ( Vaccinium myrtillus ) and the lingonberry ( Vaccinium vitis-idea ). With the increasing eutrophication of the water that emanated from the ditch, the more nutrient-poor species died out over time. The Strandling and the Gagel were last seen in the early 1970s.

Due to the strong change in the area and the extensive loss of protected plant species, the protection ordinance was repealed. Later the pond was used as a fishing water.
