The Großer Berg - Hellberg nature reserve (number GT-031) is located in the area of ​​the city of Halle (Westphalia) in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Gütersloh . It is 66.55  ha in size and is located in the area of Großem Berg ( 235.5  m above sea level ) and Hellberg ( 230.3  m above sea level ).

It was particularly suitable for the preservation and restoration of structured formerly niederwald-used book stocks , species-rich beech trees (in particular Woodruff -Buchenwälder and on smaller faces wild garlic and orchids-beech), and of the heat-favored because of the protected position lime - dry grassland located at the edge of the operating Quarry. Furthermore, existing caves and tunnels are to be preserved.

Special natural and cultural historical importance is ascribed to the area.

The peculiar shape of the nature reserve arose from the fact that it encloses a landfill, which was in operation as one of two landfills in the Gütersloh district until the end of 1999 and has been recultivated since then.
