Huw Bennett (born June 11, 1983 in Ebbw Vale , Blaenau Gwent ) is a retired Welsh rugby union player . He played as a hooker for the Welsh national team and the Ospreys .

Bennett made his national team debut against Ireland in preparation for the 2003 World Cup . He had previously played for the Welsh U19 and U21 as well as the English U18. He was used at the World Cup against Canada and Tonga .

Bennett was particularly successful in the 2006/07 season when he completed 23 games for the Ospreys, scoring a try in the Magners League , the Heineken Cup and the EDF Energy Cup . He injured himself in the final Magners League game that secured the Ospreys the championship, so that he could not participate in the preparatory games for the 2007 World Cup . He played against Japan during the World Cup .

Under the new national coach Warren Gatland , he became a regular at the Six Nations 2008 , where Wales could reach the tenth Grand Slam in history. Bennett extended his contract with the Ospreys in March of that year until 2012. He then moved to France to Lyon Olympique Universitaire . Due to a protracted injury, he was not used for the club and ended his career in June 2013.
