The Neath Rugby Football Club is a rugby union -Verein who in the Welsh Premier Division plays. The home games are played at The Gnoll Stadium.
history
Neath RFC was founded in 1871, making it the oldest Welsh rugby club. Despite its history, the club was not one of the founding members of the Welsh Rugby Union in 1881. Why no representative from Neath was present at the meeting of the Welsh clubs is still unclear. In the 1882/83 season, however, the club was added to the ranks of the association.
In 2003 the WRU decided to create five regional Welsh teams. These are made up of the existing clubs. Neath merged with the Swansea RFC and became the Ospreys . The two part-owners remained and continued to play in the Welsh Premier Division. In 2008 the club decided to share its stadium with the Neath AFC football club in order to advance the modernization.
From the 2009/10 season the club will take part in the British and Irish Cup , a competition for second-rate clubs.
