Shane Mark Williams , MBE (born February 26, 1977 in Morriston, Swansea ) is a Welsh rugby union player who is used on the position of the outer three quarters . He is active for the Welsh National Rugby Union Team and the Ospreys . Sometimes it was also used as a connecting half and a crowd half .
Career
In his youth, Williams first played at Amman United RFC and later at Neath RFC , where he played in various positions. He was best known for his "side steps" with which he often breaks through the opposing ranks at high speed.
His attempts against Italy , Scotland and England in the Six Nations 2005 formed the basis for the Welsh Grand Slam that year. Because of his consistently good performance, he was called up for the tour of the British and Irish Lions in the same year and came to two missions.
During the 2007 World Cup , he made five attempts , including two against Japan . So he overtook legend Ieuan Evans in the statistics of Welsh players with the most attempts and was now only behind Gareth Thomas . With the two attempts against Scotland at the Six Nations 2008 Williams managed to jump to number 12 in the international list of the most successful players. He shares this seat with Jonah Lomu , the former star of the All Blacks . In this tournament he managed a total of six attempts and thus the most of all players. As a result, he passed Gareth Thomas and is now the most attempted Welsh player of all time. In the further course of the season, in addition to the Grand Slam at the Six Nations, he also won the EDF Energy Cup with the Ospreys.
In May 2008, Williams led a Welsh selection that played against a world selection. His teammate Justin Marshall took over the management of the opponent. He was named Player of the Year by the International Rugby Board that year . On April 21, 2009 he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa .
Williams has been married to his childhood sweetheart Gail Lacey since December 23, 2005, whom he met at school when he was 14. Their first child Georgie was born on November 8, 2006.
