The Reutemühle Pet Farm (also: The Bodensee Zoo ) is a farm with a public zoo in Überlingen - Bambergen . In the zoo, opened in 1994, around 180 different animal species can be viewed.

The Reutemühle pet farm, which is run as a family business , claims to be Germany's most species-rich farm and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest collection of extinct breeds. The animal species kept there are mainly farm animals such as horses , goats , sheep , chicken or pigs , but some more exotic animals have also been added over the years, so that today also camels , otters , coatis , marmosets , skunks , squirrels and maras , Wallabies , beaver rats or meerkats can be seen.

The Reutemühle is located north of Überlingen on the road towards Bad Saulgau and belongs to the municipality of the Überlingen district of Bambergen.

Agriculture

The economic basis of Reutemühle is the agricultural operation, which is based primarily on the keeping of suckler cows , the accommodation of boarding horses and sheep breeding. A good 50 hectares of grassland and orchards are cultivated in the Reutemühle area.

Animal park

The entrance area of ​​the Reutemühle consists of the stables and enclosures for the animals as well as the so-called "Kellerchenke", the catering facility of the domestic animal farm . Behind it are the many outdoor enclosures , between which a circular path allows visitors to view the animals in the open air. Several play equipment is set up along the circular route to make Reutemühle more attractive for children.

history

The history of the Reutemühle goes back to the year 1280, when it was first mentioned in a document. The Reutemühle served as a grain and oil mill for centuries, and from around 1900 as a grain mill with part-time farming. The zoo was finally opened in 1994 and has been continuously expanded since then.

Events

In addition to regular offers such as pony rides and animal feeding by visitors, there are always musical events on the so-called musicians' stage in the Reutemühle, especially in the warmer seasons. These are mainly guest performances by well-known folk musicians .
