The Llanelli Rugby Football Club is a rugby union -Verein who in the Welsh Premier Division plays. The home games are played in Parc y Scarlets .

history

The club was founded in 1872. One of the founding fathers, John Rogers, got to know the sport in his birthplace, the rugby school . Due to a lack of competition, it was not until 1876 that the first game against Swansea could be played. The venue was People's Park in Llanelli . In 1879 the club moved to Stradey Park , where cricket games were usually played. The first game at Stradey Park took place on November 29, 1879 against Neath , Wales' oldest rugby club. Until 1884, the team changed jersey colors more often, until they stayed with scarlet. Since then, Llanelli has been known as "The Scarlets".

In its history, Llanelli has played against numerous national teams, including Australia , New Zealand and South Africa , and defeated them with the exception of South Africa. The club traveled to Germany , France and the USA to play games against clubs and national teams. 14 players from the club have made it into the British and Irish Lions roster and 18 have been captains of the Welsh national team .

In 2003 the Welsh Rugby Union decided to form five regional teams, each made up of the existing clubs. The Llanelli RFC has since been part owner of the Scarlets .

Since 2008 they have been playing in Parc y Scarlets . From the 2009/10 season the club will take part in the British and Irish Cup , a competition for second-rate clubs.
