history

The Cardiff RFC was founded in 1876 and played its first game against Newport on December 2nd of that year. He played his first home game at Sophia Gardens . Soon after, however, the club moved to Cardiff Arms Park. He won his first national title in 1881 with the South Wales Challenge Cup by defeating Llanelli . This cup competition was abolished shortly afterwards due to a lack of spectators.

In addition to the seven cup successes and one championship, reaching the finals of the Heineken Cup 1996 , the first edition of the most important European competition, is one of the club's greatest successes. In addition, the club won the title in the Welsh-Scottish League in 2000. Cardiff has in its history the most players of all clubs for the Welsh national team and the British and Irish Lions .

In 1953 the Cardiff RFC managed to beat the All Blacks 8-3. The seven survivors of the team at that time celebrated this historic event on the 50th anniversary. There are also successes against South Africa (1907) and Australia (six wins between 1908 and 1984). The highest victory in the history of the club was the 116-0 win against Dunvant on March 25, 2000. Steve Ford put the most attempts with 187.

From the 2009/10 season the club will take part in the British and Irish Cup , a competition for second-rate clubs.
