Timothy Adam North "Tim" Payne (born April 29, 1979 in Swindon ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a pillar for the England national team and the London Wasps .

Payne joined the Wasps in 2003, having previously played for the Bristol Shoguns and Cardiff RFC . In 2004 and 2005 he was able to win the English championship . The Wasps also won the Heineken Cup . After the final in the Heineken Cup, Payne was called up for the first time in the English national team for their summer tour to Australia . It took two more years until he came to his second international game.

In the 2006/07 season Payne played 26 times for the Wasps and was used in the 2007 Six Nations for England. He came to two missions in the final games against France and Wales . At the end of the season he dropped out due to an injury and was unable to take part in the final in the Heineken Cup , which the Wasps could win. He also dropped out for the World Cup . He returned to the Six Nations in 2008 .

In 2009, he was added to the squad after the British and Irish Lions' first game against South Africa because his national team-mate Andrew Sheridan was not one hundred percent fit due to back problems.
