Six Nations 2007 was the eighth edition of the annual Six Nations rugby union tournament . Fifteen games took place on five weekends from February 3 to March 17, 2007 . The tournament winner was France thanks to the better points ratio, while Ireland achieved the Triple Crown with victories over all British teams .

Tournament course

Game scene from the match between France and Wales on February 24, 2007

In the run-up to the tournament, Ireland was the favorite for the Grand Slam . However, the Irish lost 17:20 against France. This game was of historic importance in that it was the first to be played in Croke Park , Dublin . Before 2005, the statutes of the Gaelic Athletic Association , the owner of the stadium, prohibited the practice of "foreign" sports there. In addition to rugby union, this also included rugby league and football . Ireland won against England , which in turn beat France.

In the third round, Italy , which has been participating in the tournament since 2000, beat Scotland 37:17 , making it their first away win at Six Nations. The 13:43 defeat of the English against Ireland at Croke Park was again their worst result in the entire history of the tournament, both in terms of points received and the point difference. The Italians achieved a second win in the fourth round for the first time during the same tournament. They won in Rome with 23:20 against Wales .

Before the final round, four teams had a chance to win the tournament: France, Ireland, England and Italy. The French secured the tournament victory when they scored a try in stoppage time and thus made the necessary difference of 24 points against Scotland. Without this last successful move, Ireland would have won the tournament.
