Gordon William D'Arcy (born February 10, 1980 in Wexford ) is an Irish rugby union player who plays on the position of the inner three quarters . He is active for the Leinster region and the Irish national team .

Life

D'Arcy was already part of various selection teams in his school days. He made his national team debut on October 15, 1999 against Romania . In the next few years, however, he was no longer appointed for the senior national team and played for the U21 team. However, his extraordinary performance in the Celtic League brought him back to the ranks of the Irish team in 2002. In 2004 he finally prevailed as a regular at the Six Nations and made two attempts to win the Triple Crown . He was subsequently voted Player of the Tournament by the BBC .

From November 2005 until the 2007 World Cup , D'Arcy played in all of Ireland's games. At the Six Nations 2008 he broke his arm in the opening game against Italy and has not played in a game since. Another operation followed in October that prevented him from playing rugby until the end of the year. This decreased his chances of being nominated again for the British and Irish Lions , for which he played on the 2005 tour to New Zealand . He returned in December in the Magners League game against Ulster Rugby . He was subsequently also used in the Six Nations 2009 and put a try at this tournament. In the end, the Irish reached the second Grand Slam after 1948 . He also won the Heineken Cup with Leinster that year . After some injuries in the ranks of the British and Irish Lions, he was added to the squad after the first game of the tour.
