Six Nations 2001 was the second edition of the annual Six Nations rugby union tournament . The tournament was severely affected by the foot and mouth disease outbreak in the UK. Harsh travel restrictions came into force, particularly between Great Britain and Ireland. As a result, three Irish national team games had to be postponed until the epidemic was finally contained. These games were rescheduled in September and October 2001 . England finally secured the tournament victory thanks to a better point difference.
