The 1997 edition of the annual Five Nations rugby union tournament ( Six Nations since 2000 ) took place on five match days between January 18 and March 15. The tournament winner was France , which won the Grand Slam for the fifth time with victories over all other participants . Second-placed England beat all British teams and secured the Triple Crown for the third time in a row .
Wales played their home games for the last time in the old national stadium Cardiff Arms Park , which had to give way to the new Millennium Stadium in the same year . France played at the Parc des Princes for the last time (the French home games have been held at the Stade de France since 1998 ).
