The 1889 edition of the Home Nations Championship tournament in rugby union (later the Five Nations or Six Nations ) could not be finished. As in the previous year, the reason was the ongoing boycott of the English Rugby Football Union , which refused to join the International Rugby Board , founded in 1886 .
