Simon Marcus Taylor (born August 17, 1979 in Stirling ) is a former Scottish rugby union player who was active for Bath Rugby and the Scottish national team . He played as a winger or number eight .

Career

Taylor made his debut for Scotland against the United States in 2000 . In the following year he was nominated as a still quite inexperienced player for the tour of the British and Irish Lions and also scored a try in an unofficial test match . However, he was injured in this game and could not participate in the other games. He made his first attempt for Scotland in 2002 against Canada . In the 2002/03 season he was elected player of the season in the Scottish national team. He took part in the following World Cup, where Scotland reached the quarter-finals.

At the Six Nations 2004 , Taylor was seriously injured and was out for a whole year and was only able to represent the national team again at the Six Nations Tournament in 2005 . Another injury put him out of action in the 2006/07 season, but this did not prevent him from participating in the World Cup , where he was used in four out of five games. He then left Edinburgh Rugby and moved to the French league Top 14 to Stade Français. From 2010 to 2013 he played rugby for the English club Bath.
