Girvan Dempsey (born October 2, 1975 in Dublin ) is a former Irish rugby union player who played on the position of goalkeeper . He was active for the Leinster region and the Irish national team .

Career

Dempsey made his debut for Ireland against Georgia in November 1998 , placing two attempts . In 2000 he became a regular in the national team and played in all games at the 2003 World Cup . In summer 2004 he made his 50th appearance in the national team jersey. Among other things, he also ran as an outer three-quarters . With his attempt against England at the Six Nations in 2004 , he made sure to win the Triple Crown , which Ireland had not won since 1985 . He was also part of the squad of the Irish at the 2007 World Championships , but they were eliminated in the preliminary round.

Dempsey won the Heineken Cup with Leinster in 2009 . After the end of the 2009/10 season, he announced his resignation.
