Yannick Jauzion (born July 28, 1978 in Castres , Tarn department ) is a former French rugby union player who played on the position of the inner three quarters . He played for Stade Toulousain and the French national team and was one of the best players in the world in his position. Above all, he was characterized by the combination of speed, physique and creativity.

Career

Jauzion made his debut for the French national team on June 16, 2001 in a 32:23 win over South Africa . The following year he moved to Toulouse, where he won the Heineken Cup , the most important European club cup, with his team in his first season . He was subsequently nominated for the French selection for the 2003 World Cup . In the first group game against Fiji , he managed three attempts . He also played an important role in the other preliminary round games and led France safely into the quarter-finals, where they also won against Ireland without any problems. Ultimately, the French failed at the eventual world champions England and lost the game for third place against New Zealand .

In the 2004 Six Nations , France won the Grand Slam . Jauzion scored one attempt against Ireland and two more against Scotland . With Toulouse he failed in the final of the Heineken Cup at the London Wasps . In 2005, however, the team struck back and won the cup again, in the final they defeated the compatriots of Stade Français after extra time with 18:12. Jauzion was elected player of the game and crowned an outstanding season with this performance. He was absent from the next edition of the Six Nations due to an injury, but was again in the French squad for the World Cup . In the quarterfinals, he put the decisive, controversial attempt to win over New Zealand. After analyzing the TV images, this sense of achievement was preceded by a pass that was played forward, which is not allowed in rugby. In the semi-finals France failed again to England and the game for third place was lost, as in the preliminary round the winner was Argentina .

The following season was initially unsatisfactory for Jauzion. In the Six Nations he was only used twice, including in the decisive defeat against Wales . With Toulouse he reached the final of the Heineken Cup again, but lost to Munster from Ireland. The team at least secured the title in the top 14 by beating ASM Clermont Auvergne in the final.
