Matthew Rees (born December 9, 1980 in Tonyrefail , Rhondda Cynon Taf , Glamorgan ) is a Welsh rugby union player . He plays as a hooker for the Welsh national team and the Scarlets .
Rees moved to the 2004/05 season from the disbanded Celtic Warriors to the Scarlets. He had previously played for the clubs Merthyr RFC and Pontypridd RFC . He made his national team debut in June 2005 against the United States and made his first attempt of his international career against Canada the following year.
Rees was part of the national team at the November 2006 international games and the Six Nations 2007 , but did not take part in the following summer tour due to the birth of his first child. At the 2007 World Cup , he came to three missions. At the Six Nations 2008 he was able to celebrate winning the Grand Slam with Wales .
In 2009 he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa . He was used in all games.
