David "Dai" Young (born July 26, 1967 in Aberdare ) is a former Welsh rugby union player and current coach of the London Wasps . He played as a pillar for the Welsh national team , the British and Irish Lions and various Welsh clubs in rugby union. Between 1990 and 1996 he was a rugby league player .

Young began his career in 1985 with the Swansea RFC . In 1988 he came to Cardiff for the first time and stayed until 1990. He then changed the code and played rugby league for the Leeds Rhinos . After a year he went to the Salford City Reds , where he stayed until the professionalization of rugby union. Until the end of his career he played for the Cardiff RFC.

Young made his national team debut for Wales' rugby union selection in the first World Cup against England . 50 more internationals followed. In 2000 he was the first time captain of the selection. He succeeded during his national team career one attempt . In 1989, 1997 and 2001 he was part of the British and Irish Lions and came to three missions in official internationals. Between 1990 and 1996 he was also active for the Welsh rugby league selection.

With the introduction of the regional selections in Wales, Young was the Cardiff Blues coach. In his last season he had previously headed the strikers as player-coach. In the 2006-07 season, he led the Blues to a second place in the Celtic League . In 2009 they made it to the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup and won the EDF Energy Cup . In the 2011/12 season he moved to the English club London Wasps .
