The XML Localization Interchange File Format ( Engl. For "XML file format for exchanging localization data"), abbreviated XLIFF is an XML format for representing hierarchically structured content data in CAT tools . The format is specially designed for the low-loss exchange of translation data and the associated context information. It is XML- based and therefore expandable.
