The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards ( OASIS ) is an international, not-for-profit organization that deals with the further development of e-business and web service standards. Well-known OASIS standards include OpenDocument and DocBook.

Document formats

DocBook and DITA

OASIS maintains the DocBook document format and is involved with IBM in maintaining the DITA document format. In contrast to z. B. OpenDocument, these formats are oriented more towards content than formatting and are suitable for writing books and documentation .

OpenDocument

In order to establish an open-source , standardized file format - above all for word processing - a working group was formed at OASIS to develop the free OpenDocument formats (.ODF = Open Document Format), which can be used across the board and a. was introduced with OpenOffice.org 2, LibreOffice , StarOffice 8 and KOffice 1.4. Microsoft's format currently dominates . Since May 8, 2006, the .ODF format has been officially adopted by ISO and IEC in the ISO / IEC 26300 standard.

OASIS also maintains the security-relevant standards eXtensible Access Control Markup Language and Service Provisioning Markup Language . Together with CEFACT , OASIS was also involved in the development of Electronic Business XML .

OASIS also maintains the BPEL , an execution language for business processes.

Customer Information Quality (CIQ) is a set of XML specifications for the definition, representation, processing and administration of personal data (e.g. names, addresses etc.).

Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) specifies the collaboration of software development tools. This is an example of a member section of OASIS.
