Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) is an open initiative that was launched in 2008 to develop specifications for integrating tools with which software is developed. This initiative has gradually worked on topics such as application lifecycle management (ALM), product lifecycle management (PLM), operation of IT systems and others. OSLC is about simplifying the work of tool providers and users through standardization.

organization

The OSLC initiative has been a member of OASIS since June 2013 . According to the specifications of OASIS, it is divided into various Technical Committees (TC). Each TC develops specifications for a specific area of the software life cycle. There are, for example, TCs for Change and Configuration Management, Automation and Project Management for Contracted Delivery (supplier management). There is also a core TC that defines a specification common to all, which is then extended by the special TCs.

Open specifications

OSLC is an open standard, anyone can participate in the work, e.g. B. in so-called user groups. If you want to join a technical committee, you have to sign an intellectual property agreement. The specifications are subject to the Creative Commons license. Anyone can develop software that implements the specifications. There are open source projects that develop an OSLC reference implementation and test suites for various programming languages and frameworks. The Eclipse project Lyo is one of those projects that is developing an SDK (primarily for Java) for service users and providers, as well as reference implementations, examples and a test suite.

was standing

The initiative received a more formal status in 2009 through the formation of the Change Management working group and the participation of individual employees from Accenture , Eclipse Mylyn / Tasktop and IBM . Since then, further working groups have been formed on other areas of the life cycle and employees from around 30 different organizations are represented, including Oracle , Siemens , Northrop Grumman , Tieto and General Motors . The IBM brand Cloud and Smarter Infrastructure is also starting to use OSLC as an integration technology.

technology

The OSLC specifications are based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF) of the W3C, on linked data and REST . The integration takes place in that resources and the relations between them are each given a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI). An example is: <test case # 1> <checked> <requirement # 2>.

OSLC resources are defined by RDF properties. Operations on resources are performed over HTTP . OSLC also specifies how to make preview, creation and selection of links available to a user.
